RUSAPE – The AFM in Zimbabwe Education Department is making significant strides towards transforming rural education through technology, with a modern Computer Laboratory at Chitungwiza Primary School in Mutasa District, near Rusape, nearing completion.
The project represents another milestone in the church's strategic investment in educational infrastructure and digital learning, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring that learners in rural communities enjoy the same opportunities as their urban counterparts.
Once commissioned, the facility will provide nearly 300 learners with access to computer literacy, digital technologies and modern educational resources, equipping them with essential skills for the digital era while narrowing the technology gap between rural and urban schools.
The initiative aligns with the Government of Zimbabwe's vision of expanding access to quality, inclusive and technology-driven education and demonstrates the AFM in Zimbabwe Education Department's commitment to complementing national education priorities.
AFM in Zimbabwe Education Department Director, Dr Clever Gomba, said the construction of the Computer Laboratory is a key deliverable under the department's Strategic Plan and annual Work Plan, both of which prioritise infrastructure development and the integration of information and communication technologies into teaching and learning.
"The construction of this Computer Laboratory is in line with our Strategic Plan and Work Plan. As the AFM in Zimbabwe Education Department, we remain committed to complementing Government efforts by investing in modern learning facilities that prepare our learners for the digital age," said Dr Gomba.
He said the department remains focused on expanding educational infrastructure, embracing innovation and enhancing learning environments across AFM in Zimbabwe schools.
Dr Gomba added that the project also reflects the vision of AFM in Zimbabwe President, Bishop Dr A. D. Madawo, whose theme, "Being Elevated for Excellence and Impact," continues to inspire sustainable transformation throughout the church's education sector. "The President's vision is yielding tangible results. We continue to witness practical investments that are uplifting our schools and creating opportunities for learners to excel academically and technologically," he said.
In recent years, the AFM in Zimbabwe Education Department has intensified investment in the education sector through classroom construction, rehabilitation of school infrastructure, teacher development, strengthened governance systems and the introduction of modern learning facilities across its schools.
Education experts have welcomed the initiative, describing access to digital education as essential in preparing learners for the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Zimbabwe's National Development Strategy.
As the project enters its final phase, excitement is growing among learners, teachers and the surrounding community, who are eagerly awaiting the commissioning of a facility expected to transform teaching and learning at the school.
The new Computer Laboratory stands as a symbol of the AFM in Zimbabwe Education Department's unwavering commitment to educational excellence, innovation and national development. By investing in digital infrastructure for rural schools, the department is shaping a future where every learner, regardless of geographical location, has the opportunity to acquire the technological skills needed to succeed in an increasingly digital world.
