Mrs Theophania N Gomba, has called on families, churches, and communities to honour mothers for the important role they play in shaping society and nurturing future generations.

Speaking in an interview ahead of Mother’s Day, Mrs Gomba described mothers as the heart of families and the foundation of society, saying they provide emotional, spiritual, and moral guidance within homes.

“It is important to honour mothers because mothers are the heart of families and the foundation of society. They nurture children, support families, teach values, and provide emotional and spiritual care within the home,” she said.

Mrs Gomba said many of the values desired in society, including respect, compassion, discipline, faith, and integrity, are first taught by mothers.

She added that motherhood should also be recognised as a God-given calling, especially within Christian communities.

“As Christians, we recognise motherhood as a God-given calling, and honouring mothers is a way of appreciating their love, commitment, and contribution to society,” she said.

Mrs Gomba highlighted the significant role mothers play within churches and communities, describing them as pillars of prayer, encouragement, and service.

“Mothers are often the first teachers and spiritual mentors in the lives of children. Within communities, mothers help build strong families, and strong families create stable and responsible communities,” she said.

She noted that many churches continue to grow because of the dedication and prayers of mothers who faithfully support the work of God.

Through their guidance and example, Mrs Gomba said mothers help raise future leaders, pastors, and responsible citizens.

She also urged families to better support mothers by appreciating them, respecting them, and sharing responsibilities within the home.

“Many mothers carry heavy responsibilities physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially. Husbands and children should openly express gratitude and support mothers through encouragement, practical help, prayer, and teamwork,” she said.

Mrs Gomba added that mothers also need time for rest, spiritual growth, and personal development.

“When families work together and value the role of mothers, homes become healthier, stronger, and more peaceful,” she said.

In another note during the Mother’s Day celebrations at AFM in Zimbabwe Springs of Grace Assembly, girls from the assembly presented socks to all mothers as a token of appreciation and remembrance.

Addressing the congregation on stage, Anesu Mapfumo paid tribute to mothers, describing them as a light during dark times and acknowledging the sacrifices they make from pregnancy through raising children.

In her message, translated from Shona, Mapfumo thanked mothers for enduring pain and challenges while nurturing their children, saying mothers become the first teachers, caregivers, and guides in life. She said without proper guidance from mothers, many children could lose direction in life, but through discipline and moral teachings, mothers help shape responsible and respectable individuals in society.

She encouraged mothers to continue strengthening and guiding their children in righteous ways and expressed hope that mothers would live to witness the success and achievements of their children.

The service also had lighter moments of laughter as Assembly Secretary Elder Madziya and Baba Zheke jokingly remarked that if they were women, they too would have received the Mother’s Day gifts. Baba Zheke was chairing the church service while Elder Madziya was giving church notices.

In her closing remarks, Mrs Gomba thanked mothers for their sacrifices, strength, and faithfulness.

“To every mother who has prayed for her children, supported her family, and remained strong during difficult times, may the Lord richly bless and strengthen you,” she said.

She encouraged mothers not to underestimate the power of their prayers, love, and example, saying they are shaping generations and building a lasting legacy.

“Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. May God grant you peace, joy, strength, and abundant blessings,” said Mrs Gomba.
